It seems like it’s been an eternity since i’ve blogged last. I was in the process of a few big life changes, a huge spring speaking tour and just needing some much needed downtime, that something had to give. I’ve gotten some rest and adjusted some things in my personal life and now i’m back! I kicked off my fall speaking tour this last week in sunny South Carolina to work with an amazing group of people at the Coalition For Healthy Youth.
They host a youth prevention conference yearly and address several different topics. This year one of those topics was opioids and the opioid epidemic. In Lancaster County, where I gave my substance abuse presentation, they are still rising in opioid related deaths. Often this is the case because communities have not armed themselves heavily with NARCAN to reverse overdoses while they are happening. Many places around the country and nationwide numbers have come down because of NARCAN, it is literally saving lives from opioids such as oxycontin, Percocet, Vicodin, Heroin and Fentanyl from taking the lives of Americans all over.
I did my full keynote speech on breaking the stigma and afterward held a one hour questions and answers session. The one thing I love about Q&A is that people might label me a drug speaker or substance abuse speaker but in reality my life experience goes far beyond information as it pertains to substance abuse, addiction and recovery.
I’m grateful to the entire group of people apart of CFHY and their willingness to bring me to the beautiful state of South Carolina to share my story! I hope to see you all again soon! THANK YOU
