After what felt like a break from speaking that would never end, I finally hit the road again. First stop on the fall speaking tour, University of Alabama. This is the first time I've been to Alabama and has taken me one step closer to checking off all 50 states in the U.S as places i've been to. I gotta state the state of Alabama is a beautiful place! The college campus was a site to see, especially the football stadium! The football stadium i'm told holds a little over 100,000 people and it sells out for every game. That is so crazy to me because in California we don't have any stadiums that hold that many people!
The Phi Mu sorority helped set up this event to kick off their back to school activities. All of the students apart of their greek communities were invited to the event but was not mandatory for them to attend. As always, it's really a crap shoot when it comes to volunteer events. This by far was the best turn out i've seen for a come if you want to presentation. The auditorium was completely full, in fact, kids sat in the isles, stood behind the stage and stood at the doorways into the room. You always wonder how much frat and sorority are going to pay attention to a substance abuse speaker talking about his life story and experiences with drugs BUT all of the attendees were very respectful and received my message quite well! One of the students told me after, "You're by far the best speaker i've heard speak about drugs, you didn't just give us a bunch of useless facts like the other speakers always try to do." I don't want to be like other speakers and I enjoy being able to reach audiences with my unique way of presenting Thank you UoA, Next stop Detroit, Michigan.
